Medical Transcription: Dictation Still Rules for Good Reasons

Doctors all over the country have much more in common than their medical degrees. More than 80% share the same preference for methods of patient documentation and medical transcription: dictation. Why dictation? Because it’s fast, it’s affordable and it’s familiar.

Dictation is the way things have been done for decades. Treat patients, dictate patient notes; send them off to medical transcription services for conversion into text based chart notes. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This preference for dictation and transcription has been one of the biggest stumbling blocks for implementation of EHR in practices, simply because so many EHR systems try to change the way doctors work. Which doesn’t work.

Doctors don’t want to do data entry. Physicians would rather spend, say, 2 minutes dictating patient notes versus 10 minutes charting them, because it allows them to spend more time with their patients instead of pushing paper.

And speaking from the patient’s perspective, what would you want – the doctor hunched over the computer trying to figure out where to find the proper menu for your diagnosis or actually paying full attention to you? Yeah, thought so.

Another thing to consider is the actual cost of those 5 minutes + transcription versus 25 minutes of physician downtime. That’s a lot of potential revenue that’s going to waste, don’t you think?

So doesn’t it make sense to create an EHR system that works the way that doctors do instead of reinventing the wheel? Of course it does. So we did.

MxSecure made its name by providing busy practices with highly accurate medical transcription services, fast turnaround time and easy 24/7 Internet access to documentation. Which is the foundation of MxChart, the only EHR that improves medical practice productivity and meets your needs from Day One. Oh, and there is that positive impact on the bottom line thing to consider as well.

And that’s why we don’t dictate to you. You dictate to us.
